Best Way to Advertise

What is the best way to advertise?

This video has been created by Peter Watkins-Hughes to show round schools to act as a warning to young people about texting and driving.

This video made me think about the best way to get across a point to its audience. For me if this came on television I would simply change the channel-thus making it a pointless advert, for some people it may have a genuine impact. However, the adverts which portray road safety through the hedgehogs, despite not having the shock factor would make me think more, as I would actually watch them. Seeing this latest texting video made me think about what is the best way to advertise?

Probably the best larger in the world

Over the Summer I heard an advert on the radio for Carlsberg where it goes something like this 'The 2010 world cup is moving from South Africa to England, Pele has realised he was actually born in Birmingham...etc'

I thought this was brilliant as it really captures your attention (although it does annoys lads when they realise its not a real news bulletin)

All the Carlsbergs ads are really easy to watch and are almost like short films. The slogan 'Carlsberg don't do....but if they did they'd probably be the best in the world.....' is so easy to remember. These are probably my favourite adverts on tv.

To see these videos copy and paste this into the browser (I couldnt upload due to copyright)

'Squeezing the Best out of the British Summer'

I loved these adverts when I saw them, I think they are very effective as they represent traditional English values to advertise a product. The English love their weather and are always moaning about how bad the summer is, which really comes across. They are amusing which i think makes the audience remember them.

Would it make you buy?

Celebrity endorsements are all the rage with celebrities even starting to make their own products to endorse. However, i think whilst some people are influenced by their favourite celebrity advertising a product, it can often put a lot of people off.

Jordan, Shilpa Shetty and Jade Goody are three very controversial and potentially unpopular celebrities, a lot of people may not only not buy the product but would be inclined to purposefully avoid buying these products and get another one even if it meant paying more, purely because of the celebrity attached to them.

Celebrity endorsements are massive and you can barely watch an advert on tv without one coming on with a celebrity on it. A few i could think of were:
Richard Hammond- Morissons
Davina McCall-Garnier
Reese Witherspoon-Avon
Keira Knightley- Chanel
Fearne Cotton/Holly Willoughby- Nintendo DS 'Imagine' Game
The Redknapps-Nintendo Wii
Thierry Henry/Tiger Woods/Roger Federer- Gillette Fusion
Kerry Katona-Iceland

Cheryl Cole is now the new face of L'Oreal hair products. When people see this advert- do they think if I use those products I will have hair like that? Or I will actually look like that?

I know underneath that when I see an advert like that I secretly hope after using the product that my hair will look like that-even though the reality is it probably took a team of 10 stylists, 1000 products and a good half day to make her hair look like that.
